How to use this tool

This chart is the annual residential price for one utility, from 2015 through 2025. Each point is that year's residential revenue divided by residential sales in EIA Form 861, in cents per kilowatt-hour. It is not the July price from Electric Power Monthly, and it is not a tariff with an effective date. July 2025 and July 2026 state prices are on the state pages.

Open the menu and choose a utility, then press Show. The page address gains a query for that utility, so a link you copy reopens the same series. The menu lists utilities that meet the data threshold on the methodology page: at least 10,000 residential customers, a 2025 price, bill, and monthly usage, a state comparison and a U.S. comparison, and either a county in the service-territory file or five years of history that include a cents figure. Shorter records still have pages, linked from the state page under the ranked tables. They are left out of this menu so the list stays usable.

A blank year means that service row was missing from the file. It does not mean the price was zero, and the chart does not connect across the gap with an invented value. The primary service named under the chart is the row this site prefers for that utility. Bundled is used when it has sales and customers. Otherwise the page uses delivery, then energy. Texas transmission and distribution utilities are delivery rows from the Delivery Companies file. Do not compare a delivery series with a bundled series as if they counted the same charges.

Read the line as a history of the annual average. The workbooks do not say why a year moved, and this page does not supply a cause. A merger, a sale of territory, or a change in how the utility reported can move the average because the set of customers changed. The 2025 customer count, average bill, and average monthly kilowatt-hours are on the utility page linked from the heading. The bill calculator is where a checked current sheet, when one exists, is applied to kilowatt-hours you type. This chart will not do that.

The 2025 file was released October 7, 2026. Earlier years use the same revenue-divided-by-sales formula on the annual EIA-861 files. If a point disagrees with the workbook for that year, the workbook controls. The methodology page records the formula, including the arithmetic check on Duke Energy Carolinas in North Carolina, and it explains why these utility pages are left out of the sitemap.
